Behind Volvo's enduring legacy in the local scene is Scandinavian Motors Corporation (SMC), the duly licensed importer and distributor led by Alberto B Arcilla, president and chief executive officer. Established in 1994, SMC is a part of the automotive group founded by the Lee family, one of the most eminent leaders in the automotive industry for over 60 years now. With Richard L Lee serving as chairman emeritus, SMC's parent company is the country's longest-thriving, 100 per cent Filipino-owned automotive group. As a testament to the family's decades of expertise and experience, SMC was awarded with the Volvo Diamond Award as the best importer in its first year of operation.
