Newlyweds Alexandria and Jonathan Ronzio wanted to do something different but useful on their honeymoon. Alexandria has always loved elephants. And she found out that the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand rescues and rehabilitates elephants who&rsquo;ve been injured or abused because of illegal logging or the tourism industry. The couple signed up to volunteer for a week. Instead of staying at a fancy resort, they stayed in the park&rsquo;s basic cabins, sharing a bathroom with
other volunteers. There was no hot water, air conditioning or internet, but after hearing about some of the tragic circumstances the sanctuary&rsquo;s 70 elephants had come from, the couple knew it was the right decision. The selfless duo spent their days helping to maintain the grounds, cleaning up poo and hand feeding the elephants the rice balls, fresh fruit and veg

they spent hours preparing.&nbsp;I never thought I could love elephants more, but I did,&rsquo; Alexandria told HelpStay.
The sanctuary is also home to 400 dogs rescued from puppy mills, the meat trade and the streets. During their free time, Alexandria and Jonathan volunteered to walk and socialise with the pooches to help improve their chances of being adopted.
In the process they fell in love with a pup named Ellie who&rsquo;d been found in a drain. Adopting her, they took Ellie home to join their other rescue dog, Benji.
