Could you make my wedding cake for me?' one of my colleagues asked.
As a nurse in Nowra, NSW, I baked cakes and took them to work to share.
After making the cake for my workmate, though, it sparked a big change for me. I enjoyed it so much, I ended up opening a cake shop!
Moving to Melbourne, Vic, in 2012, I sold the shop. But a friend told me about the Australian Cake Angels Network - bakers who volunteer to make cakes for kids with a critical, life-long or life-limiting illness.
This sounds interesting, I thought, intrigued. I was a busy mum of boys, aged two, 11 and 17, as well as working as a nurse, but I wanted to get involved.
It'd be a great way to meet people and do something worthwhile, I thought.
