Let’s get a place together Jodie,’ my boyfriend Adam said after two years together. ‘I want to wake up beside you every day. Down the track we could maybe even get married.’
‘I’d love that,’ I said, snuggling into his arms.
I was only 19, but I knew he was The One. We soon found a place together.
I had a job working as a retail assistant, had just bought my first car, and now I was moving in with the man of my dreams.
‘Life is perfect,’ I sighed.
Adam worked as the manager of a local service station. This involved long hours, which meant he expected me to do most of the cooking and cleaning.
About a month after we’d moved in together, Adam rang me one evening.
‘There’s a problem with the till,’ he said. ‘It’s not balancing so I’ll have to stay late to fix it.’
