'What's that?' I asked, hearing a creaking sound coming from above.
Lunch service had just finished, and my workmate Jenny and I were cleaning up and getting everything ready for the evening diners.
'Well, Meg, there's a ghost living in the guestrooms upstairs,' Jenny replied.
'Ha! That's funny,' I said, thinking she was joking.
In my 20s, I was backpacking and working as a waitress in an old pub in the north of England.
It was winter and there was a skeleton staff running the pub. Josh the chef and Steve the barman both lived in rooms off the kitchen.
Jenny only worked at lunchtime so she soon left.
