If there is one summer bucket list destination for motoring enthusiasts, it would have to be the Monterey Peninsula in California, USA. At this breathtaking coastal location, owners of the most stunning classic cars gather annually during Monterey Car Week, the grandest celebration of the machines of yesteryear and the innovations of tomorrow.
Since 1997, Rolex has supported automotive events such as these, recognising the need to preserve motoring tradition. This year, the Swiss watchmaker celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which took place from August 14 to 17, championing the spirit of historic racing with pioneering figures and hundreds of the finest vintage vehicles in action.
MADE OF LEGENDS
The stage was set at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, which through the years has welcomed some of the world's greatest racing drivers, including all five of Rolex's motorsport Testimonees.
One of them was Sir Jackie Stewart, who had competed on this very circuit in the United States Road Racing Championship in 1965-four years before he clinched his first of three FIA Formula 1 Drivers' World Championships in 1969. Nicknamed "The Flying Scot", he has racked up a total of 30 wins and 43 podium finishes in his illustrious career.
