"WE STARTED ADVENTURING OUT OF BEING 16-YEAR-OLDS AND ONLY LISTENING TO DEATH METAL.."
TIM HENSON
This band has always been less "T about making something that we haven't heard before and more about making the thing that we want, because it simply doesn't exist yet." Tim Henson stops, takes a breath and starts to fiddle for a moment on the computer that sits at the centre of his studio. He lets this statement, this perfect summation of what his band Polyphia is, linger in the air for a moment. He continues, building on the point.
"I've been asked before whether we set out to try and be innovative. And I say that it's more a case of if I go shopping, there aren't any clothes out there for me that I want to wear. So I have to make them myself.
"If I want to listen to music, there's nothing out there that I can hear that is for us, so we have to make it. It's more of a self-serving thing rather than trying to be different at any point. "It's for us, and it always has been." The beauty of these words is that they are absolutely true. Simply put, there isn't another band out that looks, sounds or feels like Polyphia does in 2022. An intricately crafted, metic lously weaved and fascinatingly delivered collective of sounds that are unlike anything else you have ever experienced, let alone knew that people playing instruments could make. A band that has mastered their craft, yet are still learning every day, the last few years have seen them transcend from scene outsiders into a genuine global phenomenon.
But for the band, it's all just been a pursuit of joy. "Tim and I have been going in on this sort of thing a lot recently, especially as we are getting ready to be out on tour and playing together again," guitarist Scott LePage comments.
"We've just been going back and forth over what everything means to us.
