A doco about Tour de France champ Greg LeMond is not the whole story.

THE LAST RIDER directed by Alex Holmes

From a sports history point of view, this stirring if conventional documentary about Greg LeMond, the three-time Tour de France champion, has a slight problem in that it gets to the finish line a little early. LeMond was the first and after Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis were stripped of their titles - only American man and first non-European to win the race.

The Last Rider finishes with his second win in 1989.

It was, as footage and interviews with LeMond and others all remind us, quite a victory.

'It has been my life's work,\" I announced grandly and quite possibly pompously the other day to Greg, no other audience being available, \"to advocate for the advancement of sheep.\" He pointed out that this was patently untrue. If it was true, he said annoyingly, although quite possibly reasonably, I'd have started my life's work a bit earlier, given that I had taken up this selfless work only seven years ago, the length of time we have been at Lush Places.
