I&L sector: India's next chapter of growth

With the focus on Make in India, the industrial and logistics (I&L) sector is on the brink of unprecedented growth with large conglomerates establishing their production and warehousing centres in India. As the nation embraces accelerated urbanisation and a thriving e-commerce ecosystem, the I&L sector is poised to power the country's next chapter of growth. The development of the sector is mostly dependent on India's major cities. Some of the most significant ports, airports and industrial zones in the nation are located in these cities. They are also important centres for transportation and production, which makes them the perfect places for businesses to open offices.

Industry experts say that the rise of e-commerce businesses in the past couple of years contributed substantially to the growth of the I&L sector. "The growth of I&L sector is definitive, and this will transcend the core markets, enabling the sector to expand its footprints across the country," says Abhishek Bhutani, MD, Ahmedabad and logistics & industrial, Cushman & Wakefield.

Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, national chairman, NAREDCO points out, "Following the Covid-19 epidemic, the Indian I&L sector has experienced a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour and demand patterns. Companies are adopting digital solutions to reduce costs and improve efficiency. As a result of workforce migration, increased disposable income, and ease of purchasing and in-time delivery, there has been an increase in the number of in-house warehouse facilities and dark stores near consumer markets."
