The bridge’s construction demonstrates meticulous attention to environmental impact, utilizing sustainable materials and minimizing disruption to the surrounding ecosystem.

Mumbai, the city of dreams, known for its fast-paced lifestyle, bustling streets and iconic landmarks added one more feather to its cap—the Atal Bihari Vajpayee SewriNhava Sheva Atal Setu.

On January 12, 2024, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest bridge, connecting Sewri in Mumbai to Nhava Sheva. This 22-kilometer-long engineering marvel is not only a symbol of progress and development but also boasts of being environmentally friendly and rivalling the best bridges across the world. On the occasion, PM Modi remembered his ‘dear friend’ Shinzo Abe after inaugurating the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or Atal Setu, crediting the former Japanese PM for “envisioning the project” with him.

The 22-kilometre long six-lane cable-stayed bridge is designed to cater to the heavy vehicular traffic that travels between these two areas, which are important commercial hubs in Mumbai.

The bridge has a unique curved design, making it visually stunning and standing out from other bridges in Mumbai. With a height of 100 metres, Atal Setu is not only the longest bridge in India but also one of the tallest cable-stayed bridges in the world.
