NEW DEAL OR NO DEAL, ROB KEPT HEED ON UPWARD TRAIL

ROB Elliot insists it was always a case of business as usual for Isuzu FA Trophy winners Gateshead as they awaited on news of his long-term future at the International Stadium.

The former Newcastle United and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper took interim charge of the National League club in October last year after Mike Williamson's five-year reign ended with his departure his League Two side MK Dons.

Life was far from straight forward for Elliot as he lost the services of key duo Greg Olley and Robbie Tinkler to long-term injuries before in-form forward Stephen Wearne followed Williamson to Stadium:MK during the January transfer window.

To compound the misery for Gateshead, loan signings Billy Chadwick, Kyran Lofthouse and Archie Mair were all recalled by their parent clubs before securing moves to York City, MK Dons and Morecambe during the first month of the year.
