Skipper Lee Rees, wing Harri Doel and replacement Taylor Davies all went over for the hosts at Church Bank, with a penalty try securing maximum points. Outside half Ioan Hughes kicked 15 points.
It ended Pontypool's magnificent seven-game winning run and meant they tasted defeat in the league for the first time since opening day. Captain Scott Matthews, lock Ashley Sweet and Osian Davies on debut off the bench scored their tries, all of which were converted by Matthew Jarvis.
The win moves Llandovery on to 39 points from nine matches as they now turn their attention towards next opponents Newport, who might well have overtaken the Drovers at the top by the time they arrive at Church Bank on November 25.
The Black and Ambers, four points back, host Ebbw Vale next week while Llandovery are not in action.
Newport made it five straight wins to keep up the pressure as they came from behind to win 26-15 at Cardiff. Carwyn Penny and Harrison James swapped penalties early on before Cardiff centre Luke Pollock scored the first try of the match, converted by James to give the hosts a 10-3 advantage.
