60% OF CITY TP SCHEMES IN LIMBO

Some of the 370 Town Planning schemes under AUDA and AMC held up for over 20 years; state govt had recently stipulated finalisation of TP schemes in 12 months

Despite the state government amending the process to finalise a town planning (TP) scheme within 12 months, a whopping 60 percent of TP schemes in Ahmedabad alone remain unfinished. The preliminary drafts have been approved, but the final versions are still in the works.

Astonishingly, several of these schemes were initiated as far back as 2003.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has drafted 287 town planning schemes so far, of which 115 are yet to be finalised.

AMC backlog

A closer look at AMC's draft TP schemes shows that some drafts are still awaiting approval. Take, for instance, Sola TPS 43/A and 43/B, initiated in 2003 but not cleared to this day. Or TPS 51 in Bodakdev, launched in 2004 but still under AMC's scrutiny.

Many draft TP schemes in eastern Ahmedabad, such as Vinzol, Hathijan Saijpur, Isanpur, Narol, and Vatva Dani Limda, were launched in 2006 and 2007.
