The Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG) has issued provisional Sanads (license to practise as advocates) to all 6,152 candidates who had applied but had not yet received them. The decision followed an interim order from the Gujarat High Court, directing the BCG to issue provisional Sanads. The delay had occurred because the candidates had graduated from government-aided law colleges that were not recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI)."Following the order from the Gujarat High Court, we have begun issuing provisional Sanads to all pending applicants. They must now fill out the form to appear in the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) to secure their Sanad," said JJ Patel, Chairman of the BCG. "The list of candidates who have received their provisional Sanad has been uploaded on the BCG's website," he added.The students of MN Law College and other law colleges had filed a petition with the High Court after the BCG refused to grant them their Sanads. Previously, as many as 24 colleges, including government-aided institutions, had approached the High Court when the BCI failed to renew their recognition due to a lack of faculty. As a result, these colleges were unable to admit students this year. The case is currently pending adjudication.
