The Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG), the apex body of the advocates in the state, has urged Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to intervene in the harassment of advocates by the police department in the state. BCG Chairman JJ Patel urged the chief minister, after offering prayers at the Bhadrakali Temple in Lal Darwaja as post Diwali work commenced in the court.While speaking to the media, Patel said: "I come here to pray for the wellbeing of the advocate fraternity. It has come to our notice that police officials often insult advocates when they visit police stations and officials' offices for their clients. I am bringing the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. This kind of ill treatment will not be tolerated by the advocates."Patel is spearheading the cause of the advocates in reference to the recent incidents of assaults and ill treatment by the police. Recently, the BCG issued more than 6,000 provisional Sanads to the budding advocates and made the arrangements for appearing in the All India Bar Examination, putting aside the issue of non-recognition of the colleges where they studied. The BCG issued Sanad at the lightning speed following the order issued by the Gujarat HC.
