The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration's (FDCA) bust of an illegal drug factory in Gandhinagar GIDC on Tuesday has sent warning bells ringing across multiple states.
The factory's owner, Bhavin Gordhan Patel, is accused of forging manufacturing licences and selling substandard drugs, including antibiotics and epilepsy medication, to stockists in Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand. Patel allegedly adulterated Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) with maize starch, Dibasic Calcium Phosphate Dihydrate IP (DCP), and other excipients before selling them to other drug manufacturers.
