The Gujarat High Court has quashed a complaint lodged by a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, accusing the latter of dowry harassment and other forms of mistreatment. The court found the allegations in the FIR to be general in nature and noted that the accused, a senior citizen, suffers from various ailments.In her complaint, the daughter-in-law alleged that she and her husband were not allowed to go on a honeymoon which was termed as a financial waste. She also alleged that her mother-in-law insisted on transferring her food delivery business that she had started to her husband. This led to rifts between the two women.As a result of these disturbances, she left her matrimonial home and began living in a PG accommodation before moving in with her mother.The court observed that the daughter-in-law had been living separately since 2018, but the FIR was only filed in 2021, with no explanation provided for the delay.
