The Gujarat High Court has made it clear: helmets are a must for two-wheeler riders. Government offices are finally taking notice, but what about our educational institutions? A Mirror Drive in 11 Ahmedabad campuses reveals a rather lax approach to this life-saving rule. Some institutions, like Ahmedabad University, are leading the way with a strict "no helmet, no entry" policy. Others, however, seem to be lagging behind.
For example, despite conducting research projects on road safety, CEPT University has no mandatory helmet rule for students, faculty, or visitors. Security staff check people who enter the campus, but not for helmets.
Thumbs up: Strict implementation of no helmet-no entry rule; Thumbs down: Lack of institutional policy or lax implementation.
