If the admission statistics uploaded on Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) are anything to go by, as many as seven transgender individuals have been admitted to undergraduate courses in four public universities within the state.
Transgender individuals joining mainstream education is seen as a positive outcome of the long-standing efforts by both the central and state governments to provide equal opportunities for the third gender in higher education.
According to GCAS, the highest number of transgender students is reported at Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University in Patan (4), followed by one each at Gujarat University, Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University in Bhuj, and Shri Govind Guru University in Godhra.
