Masali village in Suigam taluka of North Banaskantha district has bagged the distinction of being the first solar village on the border in the country. With a total population of 800, Masali is located 40 kilometers from the Pakistan border. Through the efforts of the district administration, the village has become entirely solar-powered.Solar rooftops have been installed on all 119 houses in the village. The complete project, valued at Rs 1.16 crore, was set up through collaboration between the Revenue Department, UGVCL, a bank, and a solar company. Today, the 119 houses collectively generate 225.5 kilowatts of electricity, which is more than enough to meet the requirements of each household."The project was implemented with a subsidy of Rs. 59.81 lakh, public contributions of Rs. 20.52 lakh, and Rs. 35.67 lakh from CSR funds under the PM Suryaghar scheme," Collector Mihir Patel said.
