A day after facing criticism from students and faculty members for abruptly reshuffling and transferring faculty portfolios, the National Institute of Design's (NID) new director, Ashok Mondal, clarified on Tuesday that the assigned responsibilities are purely administrative and will not affect faculty teaching commitments.
Mondal addressed these concerns in an email to the Students Activity Council (SAC) following an open house held at the campus amphitheatre.
During the open house, students and teachers gathered in large numbers to raise questions about the reshuffle but alleged that they did not receive satisfactory answers. However, later that evening, Mondal provided a detailed explanation to SAC members via email.
On Monday, Mondal had reassigned faculty members with specific expertise to different disciplines and removed six women faculty members as chairpersons, leading to concerns about gender balance in the administration.
