Nikol resident fell victim to a work-from-home scam and lost Rs 24 lakh. The accused lured 36-year-old Hardik Kumar Dashrathbhai Patel with lucrative commission for tasks.According to the complaint, Patel received a message on WhatsApp on August 11, 2024, from an unknown number, offering a part-time job. He was then directed to join a Telegram group named Thrillophilia 1614 by a user going by the name 'Pooja' with the handle @PoojaJ04. The group claimed to provide tasks related to hotel ratings in exchange for commission-based payments.Patel was asked to create an account on a provided link and perform specific tasks, which included submitting hotel ratings. He was assured of earning money for completing these tasks and received further instructions from another Telegram account.Believing the scheme to be genuine, Patel transferred Rs 24 lakh into various bank accounts between August 18 and August 30, 2024.When the fraudsters demanded an additional Rs 14 lakh under the pretext of processing refunds for his previous transactions, the complainant became suspicious.Upon realising he had been deceived, Patel approached the cybercrime department to file a complaint. The fraudsters did not provide Patel promised commissions for the tasks completed.
