Exemption for LTCG on investment in new house residential
Section 54 of the Income-tax Act, grants exemption for long term capital gains (LTCG) arising from the transfer of a residential house, if such gains are invested for purchase or construction of another residential house within the stipulated time periods as prescribed under the section. Similar exemption is prescribed under Section 54F in respect of LTCG arising on transfer of other assets, if the net consideration arising from such transfer is invested in the purchase or construction of a residential house.
