A 64-year-old retired man lodged a cybercrime complaint on Monday, alleging that he was duped of Rs 93.86 lakh by individuals operating through fake Telegram IDs under the pretext of providing work-from-home tasks and cryptocurrency investments.According to the complainant, Krishna Mohan Chakrapani, a resident of Ambawadi in Ahmedabad, a person named Ananya contacted him on November 19 last year via WhatsApp with the offer of work-from-home opportunities. He initially got tasks with small payments of Rs 90 per completed task.As he progressed, he was introduced to other Telegram IDs. The scam operators convinced him to deposit large sums of money into various bank accounts. Between November 19, 2023, and January 6, 2024, Chakrapani transferred Rs 93.86 lakh to accounts across banks. Despite assurances of high returns and recovered deposits, he did not receive any of his money back or promised commissions.Realising the fraud, Chakrapani approached the cybercrime cell.
