The Subhash Bridge Regional Transport Office (RTO), operating from a rented building for the past four years, faces yet another delay in moving to its new premises. The deadline for the possession of the new office building has now been extended to May 2025, according to RTO sources.The current office, housed in a commercial complex, has been a source of inconvenience for visitors, handling essential services such as driving licence issuance and vehicle registration. Since 2021, these operations have been conducted from rented premises at a cost of Rs 11 lakh per month.Initially, the Road and Building Department was expected to complete and hand over the new office by October 2024. This was later extended to December 31 due to delays in finalising work. However, the building remains incomplete, with pending tasks such as furniture installation and the construction of an electricity substation.The new facility was also planned to include an advanced driving test track, a critical component for modernising the RTO's services, but this remains incomplete.A senior RTO official said, "Despite the new building being nearly ready, it cannot be used due to unfinished work like the electricity connection and furniture installation. This has caused considerable inconvenience to thousands of citizens."
