A private school bus caught fire on SG Highway near Gota on Wednesday, causing a stir. The bus was engulfed in fl ames. Fortunately, there were no children in the bus at the time of the mishap. No injuries or casualties were reported. According to sources from the fire department, as soon as the incident was reported, the fire brigade rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control quickly. “The bus involved was a mono school bus with the registration number GJ 38 T 8601, and the driver was alone in the bus at that time,” said a fire department official. “At the gate of Vasantnagar Township, a bus belonging to Chartered Speed Limited, which operates buses for various schools, caught fire due to a technical issue. This bus is used as a backup when a school bus breaks down. At the time of the incident, no students were on board as the bus was heading to its designated parking spot,” said Balram Meena, DSP of Zone 1. DEO of Ahmedabad City Rohit Chaudhari said, “As a precautionary measure, we will conduct surprise inspections at schools with similar school buses to ensure compliance with regulations. In collaboration with the fire department, the DEO office will also organise a workshop for school bus drivers, conductors and school staff to educate them on necessary precautions.”
