In a daring theft in Dholka's Sargwala village, thieves broke into the home of a local farmer on October 12 and stole Rs1.07 crore in cash. The money, kept inside a grain storage container, was part of the proceeds from a recent land sale. The Ahmedabad Rural police, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Special Operations Group (SOG) are probing the case. The incident took place at the home of Udesang Solanki, a farmer who, along with his family, had recently sold 12 acres of jointly owned land. Four days ago, the family had received Rs 1 crore from the sale, which Udesang brought home in a bag. Along with another Rs 7.8 lakh, the total Rs 1.07 crore was stored in a bag and kept inside a grain container. On October 12, Solanki went to Dholka to buy a new tiller and later visited a relative in Bhalada village to give them some money. While he was away, his nephew, Prakash called him to inform him about the theft. When Solanki rushed home, he found that thieves had removed bricks from a window, broken the lock of the container and stolen the bag with Rs 1.07 crore in cash. "We are interrogating all suspects, including family members, villagers and those involved in the land deal," said Prakash Prajapati, DYSP, Ahmedabad Rural.
