The city crime branch officials arrested two men on Monday evening with six pistols and 24 cartridges of 7.62 mm calibre worth Rs 1.72 lakh. The arms were seized during a raid near Ratna Granite from the road leading to Gota from Ognaj. The arrested have been identified as Kishorkumar alias KK Panchal (31) and Vikramkumar Padhiar (32), both residents of Banaskantha. The firearms were smuggled to some other persons who were planning an armed robbery in the city. <p>Crime branch officials said that they found four pistols and 16 live rounds from Vikramkumar and two pistols and eight live cartridges from KK. The pistols had "Model Star Made in USA" and "Made in Spain" on them, which the suspects might have faked, the cops believe. The firearms and ammunition were procured from Man Singh Sikhligar, a notorious gun runner from Dhar in Madhya Pradesh. Sikhligar is suspected to be part of a larger illegal arms supply network. <p>Investigators told Mirror that the suspects confessed before that they had come from Deesa to sell the firearms in Ahmedabad. The police are now expanding their investigation to trace the arms network and apprehend Sikhligar. <p>The Crime Branch officials are in touch with their counterparts in MP to nab Sikhligar and other suspects involved in the gun-running. "We are actively pursuing leads to dismantle this supply chain so that weapons cannot be smuggled into Gujarat for illegal activities during the upcoming festive season," said a senior police officer.
