Managerial roles' share wanes, workers' rises

The share of people in "supervisory and managerial" roles in the formal manufacturing sector has declined over the past decade, an analysis of the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) data for the period between FY14 and FY23 shows.

Experts attribute the changing nature of the manufacturing workforce to automation in administrative jobs and the increasing hiring of workers on contract. The data shows the share of people employed in "supervisory and managerial" roles to the total declined to 9.3 per cent in FY23 from 10.04 per cent in FY14.
