Vedanta to build hub for iPhones, TV equipment

A day after Vedanta signed a deal with the Gujarat government for a $20-billion semiconductor unit, which Maharashtra had been gunning for, Chairman Anil Agarwal on Wednesday said the company would look at creating a hub to manufacture Apple's iPhones and TV equipment, along with possibly entering the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

The company will create a hub in Maharashtra to manufacture iPhones and television equipment, Agarwal said in an interview to CNBC TV 18, adding this would be a "kind of forward integration for the Gujarat JV plant".

Rolling out EVS is central to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's carbon-reduction agenda.
