Anderson holds back tears on final farewell

JIMMY ANDERSON'S glittering Test career ended with a drop of the hard stuff - and we are not talking about his celebratory pint of Guinness.

Unlike his long-time sidekick Stuart Broad, who signed off by taking the wicket that earned an Ashes Test win at The Oval 12 months ago, England's greatest bowler of all time fluffed his lines by dropping a simple catch.

As England took just 65 minutes to wrap up a crushing innings and 114-run victory against woeful West Indies at Lord's, Gus Atkinson's match figures of 12-106 were the fourth best for a debutant in Test history.

Atkinson apologised to the 188-cap icon for taking the final wicket after Anderson, 41, had spilled a return chance offered by Gudakesh Motie.

Skipper Ben Stokes said, laughing: "Jimmy just told him to 'F off'. He's someone who loves to see other people do well, and I'm sure he would have loved that fairy-tale ending that Broady got last year.

"But to see a young lad come in and take 12 wickets on debut, he'd have really enjoyed that as well."
