During a Cabinet meeting yesterday the Prime Minister threatened to "privatise the a*** off” the two public bodies unless they start delivering better services.

He is said to be "horrified" by the backlog at the Passport Office - which has left holidaymakers facing massive waits and £150 surcharges to make fast-track applications.
