A MANSLAUGHTER investigation has been opened in Italy after a 14-year-old British girl with a peanut allergy died on holiday with her family in Rome.

The teenager, who has not been named, had dined at a pizzeria before going into anaphylactic shock about 15 minutes later after the family returned to their hotel.

It as understood she had eaten a dessert containing traces of the peanut allergen in dried fruit, according to local reports. She died soon after arriving at the city's San Camillo hospital.

Her father also had to be hospitalised with heart problems after going into shock. The tragedy last Thursday was only made public yesterday.
