Church requires 'a hurricane of change' to clean up its act

The former Victims' Commissioner said the CofE required a "hurricane of change" since it failed to bring longtime abuser John Smyth to justice.

After the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby resigned, Dame Vera urged him to identify and dismiss others who did not stop Smyth's crimes.

She also called for an independent oversight of safeguarding outside the Church's "chain of command" as the Makin Report had identified several senior officials who did nothing.
