DAME Helen Mirren has branded it upsetting and unfair that older people are treated differently as research suggests a third of over-65s have been subject to ageism.

Dame Helen: Things need to change for older people

The British actress, 79, said "things need to change" as Age UK published its report indicating millions have had negative experiences.

The charity, for which Dame Helen is an ambassador, said its analysis found a third of people aged 65-plus and almost a quarter aged between 50 and 64 in England said they were discriminated against, ranging from disrespect to being threatened.
