Officials in Argentina, where the One Direction singer died after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, have yet to release his body as they wait for pathology tests to be completed.
But the results are expected this week and could be available imminently, at which point dad Geoff will take his son back to the UK.
A source said: "Liam's loved ones just want him home, back where he belongs among his family. There are no direct commercial flights between Buenos Aires and London, but naturally, they want the flight to have the least stops and interruptions possible. But Geoff Payne is determined to accompany his son home."
