A MORRIS dancer with stage three cancer has taken a leap of faith by becoming one of the first in Britain to test a personalised vaccine.

Richard Nelson said he was "very happy" to be taking part and hopes the trial will benefit future patients.

After surgery for bowel cancer last December he was told the disease had spread to his lymph nodes and DNA from the cancer cells was circulating in his blood.

The retired college vice-principal, 73, was offered a place on the trial in which custom-made jabs work with his DNA and viral proteins to combat the diseased strands.

Richard, from Timperley, Greater Manchester, started his vaccine trial in September and will have the last one in July. Following six weekly doses he now has them once a fortnight. He told the Daily Express:
