'I regret Covid messages criticising Boris...I didn't realise how difficult he was finding it'

TOP civil servant Simon Case said his WhatsApp messages blasting Boris Johnson and his government during the pandemic were "raw, in-the-moment" expressions and "not the whole story" as he gave evidence at the Covid inquiry yesterday.

The messages emerged in evidence last year and revealed an exasperation with the handling of the crisis.

In July 2020, before Mr Case became Cabinet Secretary, he said: "I've never seen a bunch people less well-equipped to run a country" in a missive to Lord Sedwill, who was the civil service chief at of the time.
