MANY scoffed when Lewis Hamilton left McLaren for an unproven Mercedes team ahead of the 2013 F1 season.
But the Briton had the last laugh by winning six titles with the Silver Arrows, to add to his 2008 success with his previous employer.
His timing turned out to be impeccable Mercedes dominated for years while McLaren regressed and, despite recent progress, have still not returned to the top table.
Hamilton caught everyone by surprise again in February when he announced he was leaving Mercedes, now struggling, to join Ferrari next season.
It remains to be seen how this new, possibly final, chapter of his career will pan out. But, with Ferrari now favourites to snap up car design legend Adrian Newey, the seven-time champion must feel like he has played another blinder.
