MURDERED schoolgirl Brianna Ghey was "immersed in darkness" and did not receive adequate mental health treatment, her mother said yesterday.

Transgender teenager Brianna, 16, was stabbed 28 times after being lured to a park near Warrington, Cheshire, last February.

Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, then 15, were jailed for life in February.

Brianna's mother, Esther Ghey, told an inquest at Warrington Coroner's Court her daughter's poor mental health began at 14.

She said: "I feel she was let down by the lack of mental health treatment.
