PC Sharon's killer jailed for at least 40 years

Grandfather Piran Ditta Khan, 75, evaded justice for almost two decades but yesterday was jailed for at least 40 years for her murder.

The officer's youngest child Lydia was celebrating her fourth birthday on November 18, 2005, when her mother was killed.

Now 22, she told Leeds Crown Court she recalls asking when her mum was coming home.

Addressing Khan, she said: "There will always be a void in my life - a void that should have been filled with my mum's presence.

"Every birthday is a reminder of what happened that day."

Her father Paul said telling the children was "the hardest thing I have ever had to do".
