JOHNNIE Walker's wife led tributes to the broadcasting giant after he died yesterday aged 79.

The much-loved DJ spent 58 years on the airwaves, ending his career on Radio 2 on October 27. He'd revealed in June that his lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, was "terminal" and doctors had told him to "prepare to go at any moment".

Tiggy, who was married to him for 22 years, said: "I couldn't be more proud of Johnnie how he kept broadcasting almost to the end and with what dignity and grace he coped with his debilitating lung disease.
