Rachel Reeves said negotiations between Britain and the EU will start in the new year following her visit to Brussels yesterday to "rebuild bonds of trust that have been fractured".
Ms Reeves became the first Chancellor to attend a meeting of European counterparts since Brexit, as part of Sir Keir Starmer's "reset" with the bloc.
Reform MP Rupert Lowe warns in the Express today: "This comes not even five years since we officially left the EU, and for Brexiteers like myself the alarm bells should be ringing."
Respect
The MP for Great Yarmouth adds that Ms Reeves must respect the decision made in the 2016 Brexit referendum and focus on growing the economy at home instead of edging ever closer back to Brussels.
Alex Burghart, the Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, warned that it appeared the Labour Government's "plan is to follow EU rules for nothing in return".
