In the Egyptian capital a Hamas delegation arrived as US officials said Israel had provisionally accepted a six-week truce in Gaza beginning with the release of wounded, elderly, and female hostages.
Washington said a framework for a ceasefire deal had been put in place claiming Israel had "more or less" agreed to the terms on the table.
Mediators from the US and Qatar reconvened in Cairo where it was hoped talks would take place between Palestinian and Israeli representatives.
