Trump eyes Rwanda deportations

The president-elect's team is looking at plans to send illegal immigrants to the central African nation and other countries in a process similar to the ditched Conservative policy.

Deporting migrants was a key part of Trump's election campaign, but the details of how he plans to accomplish the goal of removing up to 20 million people from the US has remained unknown.

One option he is said to be considering is "third-party safe countries" - similar to Rishi Sunak's now discarded Rwanda plan.

The former Tory PM wanted migrants who crossed the Channel illegally to be flown to Rwanda to seek asylum from there.

A source close to Mr Trump's team told a Sunday newspaper: "Trump campaigned on a promise to crack down on illegal immigration - and he is determined to stick to it.
