In an attempt to get his floundering government back on track, the Prime Minister used a "reset" speech to unveil six milestones it must achieve during the next four years. But there were no targets for tackling immigration, despite surging Channel crossings and the spiralling costs of asylum seekers.
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said the omission shows that the PM "doesn't know what he's doing". In a post on X, the opposition leader said Sir Keir had offered "nothing concrete on immigration because Labour have no plan to control numbers".
Ms Badenoch added: "This relaunch can't hide the reality of a government that doesn't know what it is doing." Nigel Farage slammed the speech, and told the Daily Express: "He is ignoring the biggest problem in Britain and his economic pledges are utterly meaningless." The Reform UK leader said his party has "big momentum" after a new poll shows it has now overtaken Labour to become the second most popular party in the country.
