DAY trippers are set to make this August bank holiday weekend the busiest for motorists on record.
RAC and INRIX data shows 19 million leisure trips will be made during the coming weekend, the most since their records began in 2015.
Saturday will be the busiest day, with 3.7 million getaway road trips planned, slightly ahead of 3 million on Friday, 3.1 million on Sunday and 3 million on bank holiday Monday.
Another 6.2 million roads trips are planned at some point over the weekend, with drivers undecided exactly when they will travel.
The RAC's research also found 84% of the journeys will be for day trips.
