300 people die in poverty every day

THE number of people dying in poverty has soared to 300 a day, a charity found.

Marie Curie said the annual number of deaths rose from 93,000 in 2019 to 111,000 last year, a 19% rise. That means 18% of people who died last year did so in a state of poverty.

And in 2022, 128,000 people died in fuel poverty, with 110,000 of them pensioners. Widow Simona Pappalardo was left with a £5,000 energy bill after her husband David died of cancer in June.
