THE average household is now shelling out nearly £5,600 a year on essential bills, research shows.
A typical outlay on energy, water, council tax and insurance has jumped by £326 to £5,589 in the past 12 months, according to website Compare the Market.
On top of that, millions with mortgages have faced a surge in borrowing costs, often adding hundreds a month to repayments.
