A NEW BRITAIN

A BLUEPRINT to halt Britain's slump and restore the nation's hopes was revealed by Labour yesterday.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the 40 new laws announced in the King's Speech will bring about much-needed change.

He added that as Labour continues its first steps back in power it keeps finding evidence of the "decline deep in the marrow of our institutions" as a result of 14 years of failure under the Conservatives.

Amid pomp and pageantry, the King's Speech unveiled laws to renationalise the railways, boost house building, give workers extra rights and stop young people smoking.

In victories for the Mirror, lethal ninja swords will be taken off our streets, the scourge of shoplifting will be tackled and when criminals are sentenced they will be forced to be in court to face victims' families.

The intention is for free breakfast clubs in every primary school in England, while pension rule changes could boost the average person's pot by £11,000.

A Border Security Command will be set up as stronger penalties are put in place for migrant smuggling gangs as part of the effort to curb small boats crossing the Channel.

Labour also intends to create a publicly owned energy firm and ensure there are terror prevention plans at event venues.
